O M G ~ it's my A Court of Mist and Fury Review (ACOTR #2)

Image
Title  - A  Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Rose and Thorns #2)  Author  - Sarah J. Maas __________________________________________________________________________________ spice 🌶 - 5 scare 😱 - 3 plot 📖 - 4 characters 🧍- 5 stars ⭐ - 5 Damn - this was a good book. I liked it soooo much more than the first one, and I did really like the first one. There are a few things that were pretty out there in this book, but it's a fantasy book, and I think that warrants a hard-to-believe plotline or two. As I was about 100-50 pages from the finish line I was dying to start the next book, by the end, I was angry , happy , and all the emotions. I definitely need a break before book 3. If book 3 goes up on the crazy scale the same amount as books 1 to 2 I don't know if I'll be able to handle it. If you are debating continuing on in the series after book 1 - DO IT !! ❤ Les View my review on Goodreads  here . ➳  Goodreads ➳  Instagram

Morphosis Review - sorry A.J.

Image
Title  - Morphosis  Author  - A.J. Saxsma __________________________________________________________________________________ spice 🌶 - 0 scare 😱 - 1.5 plot 📖 - 1 characters 🧍- 1 stars ⭐ - 1 *I received a free copy of this book to review* This book was... bad. Just so bad. While the blurb intrigued me it pretty much said everything that happened in the book. There was almost zero character development beyond what you could read in the description. I disliked all of the characters, except for one that is fairly minor to the plot. The writing in general is mediocre at best. The longest dialogue is maybe 5 or 6 lines, internal or otherwise. For my fans of Gilmore Girls... you know the episode where Lorelei gets to pick the free movie in the park and chooses to show Kirk's terrible short movie beforehand? This book is comparable to that short movie. Choppy and repetitive sentences that somehow have zero feeling. It's weird and out of touch. I read this book in less than 48 hours

Dead Man's Wake Review (ARC version)

Title  - Dead Man's Wake (Mike Bowditch #14) Author  - Paul Dorien  __________________________________________________________________________________ spice 🌶 - 1 scare 😱 - 2 plot 📖 - 4 characters 🧍- 3 stars ⭐ - 3.5 *This is the first book I have read in the series* I was sent an advance copy of this book and was very excited to read it! Despite having not read the past 13 books the plot sounded very intriguing. There were two main issues I had with this book: 1. There was a lot of extra information in this book that I felt was just used as filler to get to the length of a chapter. Some of it was interesting and important to the plot lines, other things felt like I was accidentally reading a textbook. 2. Mike Bowditch bugs me. This may be because I am missing a backstory from the previous books. Regardless at this point in time, I think he is arrogant and conceited. He speaks throughout the whole book about how the lake constable is hot-headed and abrasive like he was. Except

Meet Me at the Lake Review

Image
Title  - Meet Me at the Lake Author  - Carley Fortune __________________________________________________________________________________ spice 🌶 - 3.5 scare 😱 - 0 plot 📖 - 5 characters 🧍- 5 stars ⭐ - 5 This is the PERFECT summer read!! It's an easy read without being boring, and the characters are impossible not to like. The book switches between now and the summer 10 years ago and seamlessly keeps you engaged in two plotlines. The setting is so detailed (both of Toronto and the resort) that I can picture both effortlessly. Is the lake resort real? Because I want to go SO bad. That resort is what summer dreams are made out of.  Don't even get me started on the romance. *insert heart eyes* Is it basic? Yes. But sometimes your girl needs just a little basic in her life. It's basic because it workssssss. It's believable (the majority) and just gives you the feel goods. This book is a Hallmark movie waiting to happen.  I will recommend this book to all my fellow book

Confess Review

Image
Title - Confess Author - Colleen Hoover __________________________________________________________________________________ spice 🌶 - 2.5 scare 😱 - 2 plot 📖 - 3.5 characters 🧍- 4 stars ⭐ - 4      By normal book standards - this book is fantastic. By Colleen Hoover book standards - this book was a tad lacking. The main thing that bugged me was that some things seemed a little too unbelievable. Yes, the book is a work of fiction but usually, her books feel relatable and it is effortless to picture it happening in real life (in the best way). There were a few parts where I just yelled in my head "Stop, this is ridiculous". Overall it was a very good book but I wasn't immersed in it like I usually am with this author's books because some unrealistic elements took me out of the story. ❤ Les P.S. If you were thinking about watching the show that is "based" on this book, I'd skip it. Other than character names there is barely any resemblance to the book.

Little Fires Everywhere Review

Image
spice 🌶 - 1 scare 😱 - 1 plot 📖 - 3 characters 🧍- 2.5 stars ⭐ - 3       This book was good, but it wasn't GOOD. It was very predictable. I am not surprised this is a reader favorite though because it has every cliche possible. The over-strict mom with 4 kids: one snotty, a jock, a shy sweet one, and of course the rebel. Her husband is a lawyer and they live in their perfect house. Then the flip side there's the artist and her brilliant humble kid that's new to town. Of course, these "odd" (Pearl & Mia) people blow up the perfect family and it all goes up in flames, literally. Then you have a practically separate storyline between two families battling it out in court over a kid. This book tries to tackle every big issue in 350 pages and because of this, there are a lot of things that got dropped. The end felt very lackluster due to the author not being able to bring all of the issues to a close because there were so many of them. I think this book could hav

Local Woman Missing Review

Image
Title - Local Woman Missing Author - Mary Kubica __________________________________________________________________________________ spice 🌶 - 1 scare 😱 - 4 plot 📖 - 5 characters 🧍- 3.5 stars ⭐ - 5       I'm not going to lie guys - this book gave me nightmares. This usually never happens when I read books, no matter how creepy they get. Regardless of that fact - this book was fantastic! I had somewhat of an idea of what the outcome was going to be, but I was not sure until the last few chapters. There was so much packed into this book, especially with the several points of view, but it worked great! I was not left wondering about any details or analyzing things that didn't match up as I do with the majority of mystery books. It was hard for me to keep track of who was who and what was what at the beginning; but you get immersed in it quickly and it becomes easier. I'm going to be recommending this book to all of my suspense-mystery book lovers! ❤ Les View my review on Go

The Maid Review

Image
Title - The Maid Author Nita Prose spice 🌶 - 1 scare 😱 - 1 plot 📖 - 2 characters 🧍- 2 stars ⭐ - 2      I was told to read this book by a coworker that absolutely adored it, but I did not. There were a few things about this book that bugged me. Firstly, it was very repetitive, making the story drag on. It took forever for any progress to occur for plot lines because the author kept going back and repeating details that were unnecessary. Second, it is clear that Molly is neurodivergent, whether it be somewhere on the autism spectrum, ADHD, or some other disorder I am not sure; but Molly is more than just quirky. Why call her "quirky", "different from other girls", and "weird" when there is obviously something more going on? Especially because she is a suspect in a murder investigation. The author avoiding this element of the story takes away from the integrity of the book in my opinion. Lastly, the book talks about the protagonist losing her grandmother

A Flicker in the Dark Review

Image
Title - A Flicker in the Dark Author - Stacy Willingham  spice 🌶 - 2 scare 😱 - 3.5 plot 📖 - 4 characters 🧍- 3.5 stars ⭐ - 4      So great! If you are a fan of suspenseful mystery books this is for you. I really thought I knew how it was going to end and I was very wrong. The twist at the end was the last thing I expected. The ending was a bit confusing, I think the author tried to wrap it up too quickly. Overall this book was very well written, dynamic, and hard to put down. ❤ Les PS - If you are someone who can't read plot lines involving violence/death of adolescents, I would not read this book. A Court of Thorns & Roses Review (A Court of Thorns & Roses #1)

Image
Title - A Court of Thorns & Roses (A Court of Thorns & Roses #1)  Author - Sarah J. Maas spice 🌶 - 3.5 scare 😱 - 2 plot 📖 - 3.5 characters 🧍- 4 stars ⭐ - 4  This was the first fantasy book I have read since  The Hobbit ... when I was 13. My best friend is an avid fantasy book reader and gave me A Court of Thorns and Roses to try out. Not going to lie I was apprehensive about reading it because I've never been one for fantasy books. However, when your bestie asks you to read a book, you read the book. I was pleasantly surprised!  The beginning of the book drug on, but it did set up the rest of the book very well. Sometimes you just have to trudge through the mud to get to the good stuff. Once the setting changed the book picks up very quick. Then the ending was just too long. I got very bored very quickly and think the book could have easily been 50 pages shorter.  This book is the first in a series and I am excited to read the next book. I might just become a fantasy bo

Let's Talk About Les

Hey, bookworms! My name is Celeste and I am just a 20-something girl trying to figure her life out. I live in Eastern Oregon with my boyfriend, our cattle dog, Remi, and our cat, Hank. I'm a small-town girl but will escape to the city every once in a while. Nothing feels better than returning to the slow pace and fresh air when I get back. In my free time, I like to read (obviously), tend to my plants (way too many), and take photos in nature (not nearly enough).       I was a big reader when I was a kid, but as you all know life gets crazy. Being required to read a lot of books in middle and high school killed the spark I had for books. After high school life got even busier somehow. I'd maybe read a book a year. Last year on a family vacation I actually had this thing called free time. I picked up the book I'd been reading for four months and finished it. Even after that, it was impossible for me to try and make reading a priority. Then my grandma got put in comfort
